The Sukhothai Bangkok’s new Club Wing
First stage of restoration of iconic hotel complete for festive season

Berlin, December 6th, 2018 – The legendary the Sukhothai Bangkok opens its Club Wing in time for the festive season as the first phase of a multi-stage restoration in the iconic hotel’s 27-year history. Original architect and interior designer Edward Tuttle has upheld the timeless Thai elegance throughout the 33 new rooms and suites, creating a contemporary hotel complete with gracious service at the club lounge on the sixth floor, a newly renovated award-winning Italian restaurant, La Scala, and a swimming pool. www.designhotels.com/the-sukhothai-bangkok

The transformation of the low-rise terrace wing into the new pavilion-style Club Wing offers a haven of aesthetics and hospitality, beginning with dedicated lobby and in-room check-in, a club lounge on the sixth floor and a high-tech fitness centre in the basement. As one of the largest club lounges in the city, guests enjoy a la carte breakfast, afternoon tea, and signature cocktails at the private bar–all overlooking the mosaic tiled 25-metre swimming pool reflecting the serenity and symmetry of Thai palatial architecture. Both the well-appointed cabanas surrounding the swimming pool, as well as the double-height ceiling fitness centre, create space for balancing the buzz of the vibrant city.

As the original designer of the hotel, Tuttle kept the essence of the 13th century Sukhothai era and the elegance and charm of that glorious age. The famed designer’s preference for clean, simple lines and his eclectic use of building materials reflect a cultural sensitivity and originality that often distinguish his works as timeless architectural classics. The Club Wing rooms and suites incorporate a generous use of teak, granite, ceramic, and the finest Jim Thompsons silks to evoke the salons of the ancient capital combined with modern technology and supreme comfort. The spacious 45 to 138 square metre rooms include warm teakwood bathrooms with high-tech Japanese toilets and Bottega Veneta amenities.

Within the Club Wing, the multi-award winning La Scala Italian restaurant has returned to the dining scene in Bangkok after an extensive renovation. This year the restaurant was the only one in Thailand to be awarded three forks by the Gambero Rosso Guide as one of best Italian restaurants outside of Italy. Seasonal menus are created with a philosophy faithful to the history of Italian cooking and simplicity of fresh ingredients. The Sukhothai Bangkok also offers a selection of world-class restaurants and bars including the award-winning Celadon restaurant, serving traditional Thai cuisine of heritage specialties from regions across the nation in dining rooms surrounded by picturesque lotus ponds.

The restoration of the main wing of the hotel and the guestroom interiors follow in the next few years. The addition of the new Club Wing combined with the famed Sukhothai hospitality, now heralds a new era for this city icon.

For the opening of The Sukhothai Bangkok’s Club Wing opening, a unique rate of 20% off the Best Available Rate is available for stays between December 6 to 20, 2018 and January 6 to March 31, 2019 for two night minimum stays. Bookings through www.designhotels.com/the-sukhothai-bangkok
