Architecture Woods Bagot

Ham Yard Facade in London

Architecture Woods Bagot

At the heart of the building is a new public square with five transposed 300-foot oak trees.

Using the distinctive local landscape of Soho as a reference, London-based architectural design firm Woods Bagot constructed a building complementary to the scale of those in the area, while bringing a fresh contemporary touch to one of London’s key leisure and entertainment districts. This is Firmdale’s third build from the ground up, having mainly restored or reconstructed buildings previously.

Interior design Kit Kemp

“The devil is in the details. The height and shape of a headboard, the detail on a valance...

and the trims used on soft furnishings—it can be the smallest thing that captures the imagination in a room,” says Kemp, offering an insight into her magic. The new suites feature Kit’s own designed fabric collection with Christopher Farr. The floor-to-ceiling Crittal windows allow plenty of natural light, highlighting the striking furnishings and Kemp’s eclectic collection of art.

The Originals Kit Kemp

“A hotel’s design is a living thing, in a way. And with interiors, it’s transitory and subject to passion.”

Entertainment A perfect game

An original 1950s bowling alley was imported from Texas...

complete with back-lit bowling balls, vintage bowling shoes and bowling pin lamps. A 190-seat state-of-the-art theater regularly holds film screenings.

Food & Drink An urban garden

Raised beds of railway sleepers and picket fencing form herb and vegetable gardens, its produce served on the menu.

In addition to fruit, vegetables, and herbs, the plants flowering on the Roof Terrace are also used in the Ham Yard bar and kitchen: delicate and delightful to behold, the Edible Chrysanthemum is served with a selection of cocktails. The star-shaped blossoms of the Borage flower offer a mild cucumber flavor and are especially delicious in summer cocktails and homemade lemonade.
