Balkan Regional Seminar follow-up meeting 2018
During the two-day meeting and based on the report of the Belgrade global development education seminar and on the outcomes of the annual task-force meeting(s), participants will review the state of advancement of global development education implementation through three sessions dedicated to
policy-making and curriculum development
professional development of educators and quality support
awareness raising and pedagogical tools
The meeting will take place in the framework of the Croatian Chairmanship of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers.
The meeting is organised and facilitated by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe with the support of the European Commission, in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education of Croatia, the Ministry of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Serbia. The following civil society organisations are the organising partners:
Institute for Development of Education (Albania)
Centre for Peace Studies (Croatia)
Forum MNE- Forum Mladi i Neformalna Edukacija (Montenegro)
Center for Youth Work (Serbia)
Association for Democratic Initiatives - ADI (“The former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia”)
Representatives from neighbouring regions are invited as peer observers.
Measure the progress made in relation to the recommendations of Belgrade’s global development education regional seminar
Share strategies developed since last seminar for the recognition and promotion of global development education
Acknowledge complementarities between existing education national policies in Balkan countries, the Zagreb Congress strategic recommendations and with Council of Europe framework of competences for democratic culture
Agree on a monitoring calendar, with benchmarks,until the next follow-up meeting planned for the first semester 2019
Identify common challenges and practices in global development education in the Balkan countries and agree on regular national intermediate monitoring meetings involving the multistakeholder task forces
Promote global development education as an integral part of education and of development policy through regular assessment of the progress made in the field of Policy Making and Curricula Development
Plan and agree opportunities to develop joint action and collaboration within and beyond the Balkan countries through regular meetings between the regional North-South Centre global development education network coordinators
Establish and benchmark operational recommendations and priorities for furthering global development education in the Balkan countries

Participants
A national delegation that shall include five to six participants representing:
formal/non-formal education sector
civil society organisations platforms
local authorities
parliamentarian commissions on education
Ministry of Education and/or of Foreign Affairs
the national coordinator of the North-South Centre global development education network
These national multistakeholder task forces monitor the process of global development education curricula and policy development throughout the year, during their regular mid-term meetings.
